Hello and welcome to the start of a new program year and a new normal for counselors everywhere! I am excited and honored to represent you as your 2021-2022 president. Our leadership team is already hard at work planning many different ways for our members to learn, grow and network together in the coming months.  As we come off the cusp of an unprecedented year, I am humbled and enthusiastic about this time in our history along with the progress being made by counselors in Tennessee. I’ve watched our members be beacons of advocacy and hope not only to clients and students but also to each other. We have so much to be proud of as an organization and profession.

This year you will see even more of the ideas conceptualized by our volunteer leaders and members brought to life through monthly webinars, networking events and our fall conference. With that being said, if you have an innovative idea or are interested in serving on a committee, please feel free to reach out. I look forward to hearing your voice and how TCA can better serve its members.

So, now, I’m going to ask you to do one more thing for TCA this year. Given that “strength in numbers” is more than just a slogan, I am asking each member of TCA to do what they can in the next 12 months to bring in one new member to our association. As we see more and more proposed legislation that has the potential to negatively impact our clients and profession, we need increased membership numbers in order to create a strong, unified voice.  We must collectively work to advocate against systemic prejudice and discrimination.  Consider bringing a new professional clinical/school counselor, counselor educator or graduate student to the next TCA event you attend.  Be sure to share with them the many values of being a TCA member. I thank you in advance for the amazing work you will do in the coming year.

Together we can make this TCA’s best year yet!
